I finally played Factorio for the first time after months of people confusing it with Satisfactory whenever I streamed factory games. Fine. You win. Welcome to Satisfactorio Friday.
As a longtime Satisfactory player, I went into Factorio almost completely blind. Naturally, I also skipped the tutorial because “streamers don’t do tutorials.” This decision immediately required me to figure out burner miners, furnaces, steam power, electricity, inserters, conveyor belts, research, splitters, gun turrets, and several other things that a tutorial may have explained.
At first, I was just trying to make something resembling a functional factory. However, Factorio started clicking surprisingly quickly. I built my first automated production lines, connected power, expanded research, and slowly learned why experienced players keep saying that the factory must grow.
Then I accidentally handcrafted 500 red science.
Soon afterward, I discovered that Factorio players also call certain conveyor setups sushi belts. This was comforting because apparently both factory games eventually lead to putting too many different things on the same belt and pretending it was intentional.
Meanwhile, pollution continued spreading across the map. Eventually, the local wildlife decided my industrial expansion had gone far enough.
Unfortunately, I learned how to properly shoot only after biters started destroying my coal operation.
Somewhere between the attacks, automation, conveyor spaghetti, and increasingly ambitious production plans, something unfortunate happened: I started really liking Factorio.
One of the best parts of the stream was the Factorio community that found its way into chat. Experienced players helped me understand the game without simply telling me exactly what to build. They warned me about mysterious “canon events,” answered questions, roasted several questionable decisions, and somehow made getting attacked by insects feel welcoming.
By the end of the night, my experimental Satisfactorio Friday had become something I genuinely wanted to continue.
So yes. Factorio is joining the Friday rotation.
The factory must apparently grow.
